History
McKenzie Funeral Home has been serving Andrews, Georgetown and Hemingway area families for years. We are honored to be a part of the rich history of this community and plan to be a part of it for many years to come.
On January 5, 1978, in the small southern town of Andrews, South Carolina, McKenzie Funeral Home, Inc. was officially opened by its founder and manager, the late Rev. Howard McKenzie. It was initially a dream that became reality to many community residents as well as Rev. McKenzie. He continued, until his death, honoring those he served with respect, professionalism, and compassion in the Christian manner in which he served the Lord.
Over the years, McKenzie Funeral Home went through numerous renovations in order to serve the needs of the community and its citizenry. With his devoted wife, Bonnie, and their young son, Timothy; Rev. McKenzie began to structure the future of the funeral home’s vision as a foundation for the heart of his ministry, true compassion and love for the families that they were so “Honored to Serve”.
The vision continued and in 1997 the Georgetown Chapel opened. This beautiful colonial home, with its adorned landscaping gives credence to the founders future dream in providing surroundings in which families can feel peace and tranquility during their time of sorrow.
In 2005, several local businessmen from Hemingway, SC approached Rev. McKenzie about opening a chapel in this area and in 2006 McKenzie Funeral Home of Hemingway opened its doors with the same compassion, love, and affection as did Andrews and Georgetown in the past. Again, this has the same colonial southern charm as does the Georgetown Chapel.
With the death of Rev. McKenzie on June 13, 2009, Mrs. McKenzie became the funeral home’s President with Timothy becoming its Chief Operating Officer/ Manager of all three locations. The legacy continued when their daughter, Beth, joined McKenzie Funeral Home in a full time capacity in 2011 and later entered into an Apprenticeship to become a funeral director in 2013.
Much prayer and many requests from the respective communities of Andrews, Georgetown, and Hemingway have lead McKenzie Funeral Home to the present. The decisions made after the death of Rev. McKenzie have established a future through Ms. Bonnie, Timothy, and Beth to insure that the dream continues well into the future insuring that the confidence placed in the McKenzie family goes on in honoring those in which they serve.
