Yoakam Philhood Newton, the
beloved husband of Vera Lamb Newton, went home to be with the Lord, Friday,
January 30, 2015 at MUSC.
Mr. Newton was born the
son of Lonnie LeGrand Newton and Isolene Ward Newton on December 19, 1937
in Williamsburg County. He was a 30 year plus retired employee with
Oneita Industries. He was a faithful member of the Spring Pond Pentecostal
Holiness Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman; and was the president of the Boety
Bay Hunting Club. He was a devoted husband, beloved father and grandfather,
loving brother, and cherished friend.
Yoakam and Vera were married
on March 10, 1957 and celebrated 59 years together. Their home was
blessed with three children, Raymond LeGrand (Robin) Newton, Daphne Marie
(Earl) Davis, and Glenda Faye (Ruffin) Smith; seven grandchildren, Jarrett
(Rebecca) Davis, Amber (Jason) McBee, Jared Driggers, Patrick (Abby) Davis,
Kindra (Matt) Doak, Brittany Smith (Marshall) Mishoe, and Savannah Smith;
and four great-grandchildren, Davis McBee, Ellie McBee, Brody Davis, and
Payton Mishoe. He also leaves behind: four brothers, Donald
(Deborah) Newton, Jerry (Betty) Newton, Dale (Glenda) Newton; and Rev.
Ronald (Shirley) Newton; and four sisters, Betty Mae Baylor, Ruthalee (Harry)
Howard; Diane (Jamie) McCants; and Rose Carter.
He was predeceased by: his
parents; a brother, Douglas “Bub” Newton; and a sister, Evalene Altman.
A Home Going Celebration
will be 2:30PM, Sunday, February 1, 2015, at the Spring Pond Pentecostal
Holiness Church. Interment will follow in the Andrews Memorial Cemetery
directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 6-8PM,
Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Andrews Chapel.
