Winona Avant Thompson, 91,
the widow of Robert “Bobby” Thompson, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday,
September 20, 2020 at Williamsburg Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Thompson was born the
daughter of Andrew Jackson Avant and Beatrice Avant Avant in Lancaster.
She was the former manager for several years of the Factory Outlet in Andrews.
She enjoyed cooking, working in the yard, and spending time with her family.
She was a faithful member of Spring Gulley Baptist Church where she served
over the years as a Sunday School Teacher, choir member, and in the WMU.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, caring sister,
and a loyal friend.
She is survived by:
her children, Deidra Odom (Gene) and Robert Thompson (Sherry); five grandchildren,
Kimberly Hysong (Paul), Kevin Cook (Lyndsay), Samantha Barrett (Chad),
Cierra Virtue (Mike), and Seth Thompson; five great grandchildren, Koty
Woodard, Reagan Woodard, Trent Lowder, Reese Hysong, and Jackson Cook;
and one great great-grandchild, McKenzie Woodard. She is also survived
by: four sisters, Helen Bodiford (Douglas), Bobbie McPhetridge (Jimmy),
Patricia McKenzie (Elbert), and Judy Price (Larry).
She was predeceased by:
her parents; her husband; and a brother, Jack Elwee Avant.
A Home Going Celebration
will be 11AM, Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Spring Gulley Baptist Church.
Officiating will be Pastor Tommy Barnhill and Pastor Geraldine Bednego.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel
of McKenzie Funeral Home.
The Thompson family will
receive family and friends prior to the service from 10 – 11AM in the church
