 Walter Allen Poston, Sr., 85, a beloved father and the husband of Shelvia Jean Taylor Poston, departed this life, Thursday, December 20, 2018 at his residence. 
 Mr. Poston was born a son of Edgar Allen Poston and Lelia Taylor Poston on August 15, 1933, in Pamplico. He was educated in Florence County. Sergeant First Class Poston enlisted in the United States Army on April 24, 1952, at Camp Stewart, Georgia. He served as a Vehicle Mechanic and was stationed over seas in several countries including Japan. He was a decorated Korean War Veteran earning the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Medal, and the Korean Service Medal with Star. He received an honorable discharge on April 22, 1955. In 1956, Chief Poston joined the City of Andrews Police Department and served until 1967. In 1967, Captain Poston joined the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Department serving in numerous positions including Captain of Investigations before retiring in 1992. He a graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, a C-1 Certified Law Enforcement Officer and completed many years of continuing Law Enforcement education. Mr. Poston, a devoted public servant, leaves a legacy of honor, integrity, and humble character as a man, husband, and father.
 Walter and Shelvia were married August 25, 1956, and their home was blessed with: three children, Walter Allen (Robin) Poston, Ann P. (Charlton) Blakely, and James Richard “Ricky” (Beth) Poston; six grandchildren, Taylor B. (Brandon) Horne, Charlton Hal (Brenda) Blakely, II, Kathryn “Katie” Elizabeth Poston, James R. “Richie” (Kateland) Poston, II, Walter. A. “Walt” Poston, III, and Braxton T. Blakely; and six great grandchildren, Hayden, Madelyn, Kaden, Haley, Aurbree, and Blakely. He was the fourth child of six siblings: Mary Lee Parrott, Ludie Poston, Lou Ella Lundy, June May Pate, and Louise Juanita Curry. Uncle "Red" cherished his many nieces and nephews.
 He was predeceased by: his parents, his son-in-love, Charlton Blakely, and three siblings, Mary Lee, Ludie, and June May.
 A Home Going Celebration with Military Honors and Recognition of Distinguished Public Service will be 2PM, Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Andrews First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Officiating will be Rev. Dean Baber and Rev. Paul Miles. Interment will follow in the Andrews Memorial Cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home. 
 Visitation will be 6-8PM, Saturday, December 22, 2018 in the sanctuary of Andrews First PH Church.
