Virgil Italy Blakely, 79,
the beloved husband of Geraldine Cannon Blakely, went home to be with the
Lord, Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Mr. Blakely was born the
son of Willie Nile Blakely and Georgia Rembert Blakely on May 25, 1935
in Andrews. He was a 1953 Graduate of Williamsburg High School; a
District Manager with the Life of Georgia Insurance Company; and
a United States Army National Guard Veteran who serve during the Cuban
Missile Crisis. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Mr. Blakely leaves a legacy trustworthy and true; a man of solid character
and firm moral standards; and gave sacrificially as a devoted husband,
loving father and grandfather, cherished brother; and faithful friend to
those who know him.
Virgil and Geraldine were
married on October 22, 1955 and celebrated 59 years together. Their
home was blessed with three children, Virgil Anthony “Tony” Blakely, Kevin
Dean (Te’) Blakely, and Jeanine Elizabeth (Janet Sylvester) Blakely; and
seven grandchildren, Megan, Christian, Kasyn, Graham, Kirby, Garrett, and
Cannon. He also leaves behind: a brother, George Mauldin (Argerine)
Blakely; a sister, Elizabeth “Libby” Taylor; and his extend family including
Delores S. Blakely; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by:
his parents; two brothers, Willie N. “Billy” Blakely, Jr., and Charlton
Rembert Blakely; and a sister, Glyn Dell Morris
A Service of Death and Resurrection
will be 2PM, Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Interment will follow in the Andrews Memorial Cemetery directed by the
Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 6-8PM,
Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Andrews Chapel.
