Shirley Mae Thompson Hughes,
80, the widow of Preston D. Hughes, Sr., departed this life on Saturday,
October 8, 2016 at her residence.
Mrs. Hughes was born the
daughter of Hughie Thompson and Mae Owens Thompson on August 31, 1936 in
Myrtle Beach. She was a retired Teacherís Assistant with the Williamsburg
County School District.
She leaves behind:
five children, Calvin (Beth) Hughes, Dennis (Judy) Hughes, Jr., Joseph
(Wendy) Hughes, Dianne (Ronnie) Dionne and Renee (Steven) Brown; ten grandchildren,
Preston (Rowena) Hughes, III., Wayne (Corey) Hughes, Crystal (Al) Foxworth,
Jason (Chloe) Cook, Sydney Hughes, Paul Stone, Steven (Vicki Thompson)
Dionne, Jessica Russell, Janna Cook, and Dakota Hughes; eight great grandchildren;
and loved as a son, Carl Perry. She also leaves behind: a sister,
Bessie Kline; two sister-in-laws, Norma Jean Thompson and Gwen Lawrimore;
and her companion, Danny Young.
She was predeceased by:
her parents; her husband; four sisters, Corrine T. Mishoe, Zeuline T. McKnight-Bryant,
Verline T. Shelly and Beulah Daigle; and two brothers, William Thompson,
and Willie Thompson.
A Home Going Celebration
will be 4PM, Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the Twin City Baptist Church.
Internment will follow at the Lake Chapel Cemetery directed by the Hemingway
Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 6-8PM,
Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in the sanctuary of Twin City Baptist Church.
