Sadie Marie Filyaw Matthews, 79, the widow of Clifford Martin Matthews, Sr., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, February 27, 2013, at McLeods Hospital.

She was born the daughter of John Leon Filyaw and Lucy Cameron Filyaw on June 2, 1933 in Johnsonville.  She was a devoted wife and loving mother.  She was a member of the Poplar Hill Free Will Baptist Church.

She leaves behind:  four children, Doris Marie Brown, Clifford “Cliff” Martin (Barbara) Matthews, Debra Luceal (Charlie) Parker, and Sharon Diane Johnson; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; and seven great great-grandchildren.  She also leaves behind: three brothers, John Leon Filyaw, Thomas Filyaw, Bobby A. Filyaw; and four sisters, Fannie Nichols, Nellie Bell, Judy Parker, and Jettie Rawls.  

She was predeceased by:  her parents; her husband; a son, John David Matthews; two brothers, Clifford Filyaw and Andrew “Jack” Filyaw; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Brown. 
  
A Home Going Celebration will be 12 PM, Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Poplar Hill Free Will Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery directed by the Hemingway Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.  

Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:00-11:45 AM in the sanctuary of the Poplar Hill FWBC.
