Sybil Dennis Avant, 81, the widow of William Gordon Avant, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at National Health Care, Murrells Inlet.
Mrs. Avant was born the daughter of Vernon Zeno Dennis and Vina McKenzie Dennis on May 21, 1939 in Lake City.  Mrs. Avant was born the third of four siblings:  Dorothy “Dot” Walker, Letha Floyd (Lanue), and Vernette McKenzie (McNeil).  She was a graduate of Lake City High School.  She worked in the Accounting Department of Georgetown Steel Company from August 1974 until June 2002.   She was a former member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where for many years she faithfully served as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, and in Women’s Ministry Union.  She was a member of Freedom Tabernacle Full Gospel Church and a member of the Red Hat Club of Folly Grove.   She was the epitome of a Southern Lady who’s life devotion was to God, family, and friends.  Her legacy leaves a guide for all who will listen and learn revealing 1 Corinthians 13:  “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.8 LOVE NEVER FAILS.”
She is survived by:  three children, Rocky Avant, Debbie Cox (Danny) and Mitch Avant (Michelle); six grandchildren, Daniel Cox, Julianne Gaster (Drew), Caroline Avant, Lucas Paquette, Blair Avant, and Reagan Avant; six great-grandchildren, Harrison, Ellison, Addison, Tristan, Landon, and Adeline; her sister, Dot Walker; a large number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jimmy Phillips.
She was predeceased by:  her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Letha and Vernette.
A Home Going Celebration will be 3PM, Thursday, October 29, 2020 at Freedom Tabernacle Full Gospel Church, 264 Roy Drive, Hemingway, SC.  Interment directed by McKenzie Funeral Home will follow in the church cemetery.
The Avant family will receive family and friends prior to the service from 2-3PM in the Church sanctuary.
Due to Covid-19, the family asks that everyone please practice social distancing and facemasks as required.
