Peggy Irene Smith Welch-Todd,
a beloved mother and the widow of Delbert Welch and Albert J. Todd, Sr.
formerly of Hemingway, entered into the joys of her Eternal Home on Friday,
April 26, 2019 at Carlyle Senior Care of Bishopville.
Mrs. Todd was born
the daughter of James Heyward Smith and Mary Frances Tinsley (John Wheeler,
Jr.) Smith-Wheeler on May 8, 1940 in Lee County. With the death of
Mr. Smith, Mr. John became a loving caring father to Peggy. Growing
up and spending most of her life working on farms, she became a skilled
gardener growing flowers and vegetables. She was a gifted cook loving
to can her fruits and vegetables. As an avid outdoorsman, she raised and
sold worms, love fishing, enjoyed the beach, and was a keen bargain shopper.
She was a talented and passionate seamstress for sewing and crocheting.
Peggy had a servant’s heart and was the epitome of a Southern Christian
Mother - never meeting a stranger, going out of her way to help others,
and caring for her family above all. She was a craft connoisseur
filling her homes full of collectibles and even her last residence at McCoys
Memorial Nursing Center was no different having her room full of her latest
creations. She was a longtime member of the Olive Grove Freewill
Baptist of the Pentecostal Faith Church.
Peggy and Delbert were married
at a young age on May 10, 1955 and celebrated 49 years together having
their home blessed with 7 children: Brenda (Donnie) Baker,Jr., Heyward
(Cindy)Welch, Russell “Shorty” (Debbie) Welch, Jean (Steve) Feddersen,
John Allen (Lynn) Welch, Wendy (Dwayne Gause) Teal, and Cheryl (Charles)
Peggy and Albert were married
on September 10, 1995 and celebrated 21 years together. This union blessed
their home with seven more children: Claudia (Bill) Moyer, Rev. Jack Todd,
Sr., Victor Todd, Albert “Al” Todd, Jr, Michael (Marie) Todd, Susan (Johnny)
Todd, Timothy (Elaine) Todd and Sylvia Todd.
As a Grandmother, Peggy
was blessed with 38 grandchildren, 94 great-grandchildren, and 4 great
great-grandchildren. She is survived by: a sister, Carolyn (Raymond) Smith
and sister-in-law, Leila Smith.
She is pre-deceased by:
her parents, both of her husbands, Al Todd, Sylvia Todd , Johnny Todd,
a brother, Ralph Smith, and a sister Diane Jet and her husband, Bill.
A Home Going Celebration
will be 3PM, Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Mt Calvary Pentecostal Holiness
Church, 3336 N. Hwy 17-A, Bonneau, SC.
The Welch-Todd family
will receive family and friends immediately after the service in the church
