Mildred Robinson Gunter,
72, the beloved wife of Roland Gunter, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday,
November 2, 2014 at MUSC, Charleston.
Mrs. Gunter was born the
daughter of Charles Brown Robinson and Rena Mae Crutchfield Robinson on
November 14, 1941 in Conway, SC. She was a 1959 graduate of Winyah
High School; a 1972 graduate of Columbia College; and received her Masters
of Education in 1979 from the University of South Carolina. She was
a charter member of the Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church where
she served on numerous boards and committees including: Chancel Choir;
Sunday School teacher; United Methodist Women, and United Methodist Youth.
She was the founder of the preschool programs at Herbert Memorial UMC and
numerous other preschool programs including Winyah Academy and Georgetown
First Baptist Church. Her career included teaching at several private
and public schools until her retirement from Coastal Carolina University.
She was a participant and instructor for the Emmaeus walk. Her greatest
accomplishment was the love and Godly heritage she gave to her family and
friends. For it is written, “Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,
but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised” (Proverbs 31:31).
Mildred and Roland were
married on January 10, 1961 and celebrated 53 years together. Their
home was blessed with: two children, Tracie G. (Michael) Bowe and Mitchell
Gunter; and two grandsons, Alex and Christopher. She also leaves
behind: a brother, Chase (Valda) Robinson.
A Service of Celebration
and Resurrection will be 2PM, Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Herbert
Memorial United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow in the Pennyroyal
Memorial Gardens directed by the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral
Visitation will be 5-8PM,
Tuesday evening, November 4, 2014, in the sanctuary of Herbert Memorial
