Mary Catherine Flegel Lambert, 81, the widow of Ruice L. Lambert Sr., went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her loved ones.
Mrs. Lambert was born the daughter of Rev. William Martin Flegel and Mary Myrtle “Myrt” McCants Flegel on November 27, 1931 in Williamsburg County. As a daughter of a Pentecostal Holiness minister, she was always active in the churches where her family pastored. As an adult she continued to devote her life to Christian Ministry serving the church; the community; and her family. She was a faithful member of the St. Delight Pentecostal Holiness Church where she has lived to see three generations of sanctuaries and buildings. She has over the years served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher; VBS worker and former director; Women’s Ministry member and former Secretary & Treasurer for many years; choir member; GEMs leader; an Ordained Minister; and a charter member of the Wednesday Morning Women’s Intercessory Prayer Meeting started in 1958. In her later years, she loved to travel to Old Fashion Campmeetings around the country. As part of her personal ministry, Ms. Mary was a loyal friend to all those who knew her as she would continuously visit and care for friends, church families, and family members. She loved to sew and did seamstress work for many locals over the years. She was a member of the Woodman of the World and a SC Notary. She severed for many years at the Lamberttown Precinct of Georgetown County formerly the poll manager. She was dearly loved by the SC Coon Hunters Club for her famous Pineapple Cake which was auctioned as an organizational fund-raiser for hundreds of dollars. Her legacy is a Christian life committed to acts of selfless giving for her family and her church family; and given to unconditional love earning her the distinguished title – Beloved Godly Mother.
and Ruice were married April 8, 1950 and celebrated 53 years together.
Their home was blessed with five children: Sandra L. (James) Barnhill,
Wanda K. Lambert, Marcia L. (John Matthews) Piatt, Ruice Lee “Rooster”
(Kathy) Lambert Jr., and Will “Dee” (Denise) Lambert; 12 grandchildren;
19 great grandchildren; and 9 great great- grandchildren. She leaves behind
one brother, Martin “Ponnie” (Donna) Flegel; three sisters, Bee Platt,
Hazel (Shelby) Pou, and Patti (Karl) Bankhead; and a large extended family
including Jeanette Flegel and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Going Home Celebration with Recognition of Distinguished Christian Service will be 3 PM, Friday, September 27, 2013, at the Saints Delight Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will follow in the Holmes Cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Thursday evening, September 26, 2013 in the church sanctuary.
The family extends a special appreciation to the Hospice Care of SC; and Frances Robinson, a devoted care giver for Ms. Lambert and her family.
