JoAnn Young Welch, 73, a beloved mother and the devoted wife of Rev. Darby Welch, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, November 7, 2016 at McLeod Health Hospital, Florence, SC.
Mrs. Welch was born the daughter of Rev. Hubert Eugene Young and Orie Bingham Young on August 10, 1943, in Sumter.  She was a 1961 graduate of Blackville High School; received an Associates Degree from Palmer Business School of Charleston, SC; and attended Holmes Theological Seminary, Greenville, SC.  Mrs. Welch worked as secretary to the Horry County Administrator from 1977-1981; as clerk to Florence County Council from 1981-1996; and as Administrative Secretary of Calvary Baptist Church from 1996-2015.  JoAnn served with her husband in Christian Ministry for over 40 years, first in the SC Free Will Baptist of the Pentecostal Faith Conference and then SC Conference of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church.  As a minister’s wife, she was a gifted pianist and vocalist and fulfilled many roles as the church’s First Lady.  She was the epitome of a Southern Lady whose life dedication was to God, family, and friend – a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished “Nana”, precious sister and treasured aunt.  Her legacy is defined in Joshua 24:15, “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
JoAnn and Darby were joined in Holy Matrimony on August 6, 1966, and recently celebrated their 50thWedding Anniversary.  Their home was blessed with two children:  Dr. Joel Darby (Lisa) Welch and Jeri R. Welch (Dr. Chad) Bellamy; six grandchildren, Joel Jr., Natalie, and Lia-Lan Welch, and Parker, Daisy, and Asher Bellamy.  She also leaves behind: three brothers, Rev. L.J. (Betty Lou) Young, William (Lina) Young, Rev. LaVaughn (Sarah) Young; three sisters, Joyce DuBose, Rev. Donnie (Rev. Jimmy) Floyd, and Judy (Micky) McAllister; a brother-in-law, Henry Mims; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Rev. Hubert and Orie Young; one brother and his wife, Theiron (Gretchen) Young; two sisters and their husbands, Betty (Jack) Scott, and Rev. Frances (James Strickland) Strickland-Mims.
A Home Going Celebration will be held 1:30 PM, Thursday, November 10, 2016, at Christian Assembly Pentecostal Holiness Church, 401 Pamplico Hwy, Florence, SC.  A Committal Service will follow at 4:00 PM in the Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, 3709 St. James Road, Lake City, SC, directed by the Hemingway Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
