James Thurman Rollins, 80,
the beloved husband of Bernice Douglas Rollins, went home to be with the
Lord, Friday, October 3, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Rollins was born the
son of James Gamble Rollins and Geneva Mobley Rollins on October 28, 1933
in Williamsburg County. He was a retired employee with CSX Railroad
and was a United States Army Korean War Veteran. He was a member
of the Nesmith Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was
member of the American Legion Post 114, Winyah Masonic Lodge #40, Omar
Shrine Temple, and the Winyah York Rite Body. Mr. Rollins' hobby
was people. He never met a stranger and loved getting to know everyone.
He was always willing to help others whenever he could
James and Bernice were married
on February 6, 1957 and celebrated 57 years together. Their home
was blessed with: three children, James Weldon (Susan) Rollins, Sherry
R. (William) Driggers, and Greta R. (Harold) Morris; and six grandchildren,
James Weldon Rollins, Jr., Joseph Carlisle Rollins, William Hodges Driggers,
Jr., Garrett Steele Driggers, Harold Keith Morris II, and Margaret Ann
Morris. He also leaves behind: a sister, Velna R. Patrick.
He was predeceased by:
his parents; and a brother Alvin L. Rollins.
A Memorial Service with
Military Recognition will be 3PM, Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Nesmith
Baptist Church, 2836 Nesmith Road, Nesmith, SC 29580. Committal
Ceremony with Masonic Rights will follow in the church cemetery directed
by Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 6-8PM,
Saturday evening, October 4, 2014, at the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie
