Judith Elaine Mercer Cooper
Judith Elaine “Judy”
Mercer Cooper, 75, beloved wife of Daniel Evander “Dickie” Cooper, with
a gentle smile on her face departed this life and went home to be with
the Lord and her waiting loved ones on Sunday evening, September 24, 2017
at her residence.
Mrs. Cooper was born the
daughter of Rev. Thomas Durant Mercer and Lois Jeanette Blakely Mercer
on June 23, 1942 in Georgetown. She was a graduate of Williamsburg High
School. She attended Holmes Bible College, Coastal Carolina Universary,
University of South Carolina, and Williamsburg Technical College fulfilling
her Early Childhood Education required courses and continuing education
courses. She received her degree from the University of South Carolina
and taught in the Williamsburg County School System for over 30 years.
She began her spiritual
journey in the Andrews First Pentecostal Holiness Church. After marrying
Dickie, she joined the Trio United Methodist Church and faithfully served
over the years. As a mother and wife, Judy found her greatest joy
as she loved cooking, cleaning house, and doing laundry. She enjoyed
painting, restoring furniture, and reading. However, she was always
happiest when her home was full of family and friends with lots of food
Judy and Dickie were married
on May 19, 1962 and celebrated 55 years together. Their home was
blessed with: two children, Daniel “Danny” (Renee) Cooper, Jr. and Julie
C. McCants; five grandchildren, Evan (Brittany) Cooper, Nicholas (Whitney
Powell) Cooper, Taylor (Ken Morris) Cooper, Lee McCants, and Seth (Wendy)
McCants; 10 great-grandchildren, Danielle, Kristen, Jackson, Emalyn, Evy,
Paxstyn, Preslee Ann, Palmer Kate, Hadley, and Emmette. She also
leaves behind: a brother, Blakely (Clarice) Mercer; a sister, Wanda
(Carl) Ray; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by:
her parents; a brother-in-law, and a sister, Tommie Ann (Lloyd) Tisdale.
A Home Going Celebration
will be 6 PM, Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Andrews First Pentecostal
Holiness Church. Officiating will be Rev. Gary Adams assisted by
Nancy Adams, Rev Dean Baber, Rev. Wayne Cox, and Rev. John Smiley.
The Cooper family will receive
family and friends immediately after the service at a reception honoring
Mrs. Judy in the Family Life Center.
Mrs. Judy will be laid to
rest, 11 AM, Thursday, September 28, 2017 in the Suttons United Methodist
