Joseph “Joe” Arnold Newton

Joseph “Joe” Arnold Newton, 74, beloved father and the husband of Nancy Pender Newton, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, March 30, 2020 at MUSC.
Mr. Newton was born the son of Clarence Lezaire Newton, Sr. and Sarah Caroline Thomas Newton on August 11, 1945 in Georgetown County.  He was a retired millwright.  He was a member of Gourdines Chapel where he faithfully served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member.  He enjoyed farming, gardening, blue grass music, and hunting.  He was a member of the Jack Hill Hunting Club.  His contagious smiles brighten the path of those you met him while socializing at the local grocery stores.
He is survived by:  his wife, Nancy; two children, Beverly Newton Thompson (Michael) and Joseph “Jody” Newton, II (Tonya); three grandchildren, Britney T. Harrington (Matthew), Aaron Jolly, and Donnie M. Thompson; and two great-grandchildren, Baxlee and Jagger.  He is also survived by: a brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Samuel Newton (Rhonda); a sister, Sara Nell Newton Thompson; and two sister-in-laws, Bobbie Newton and Evelyne Newton.
He was predeceased by:  his parents; four brothers, Clarence Lezaire Newton, Jr., Willie Danzig Newton, Warren Elbert Newton, and Thomas Olin Newton; and a sister, Mary Lee Newton Herndon.
A Home Going Celebration will be 6PM, Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Gourdines Chapel, 4282 County Line Road, Andrews, directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.  Officiating will be Rev. Randy Gamble.
Per the family’s request, we ask those who plan to attend to arrive 30 minutes prior to the service.  Due to the COVID-19 virus, this will be a drive-up service.  Instructions will be given upon arrival.
The Newton family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the Doctor's and Nurses at MUSC for the care and compassion shown to them during this time.
McKenzie Funeral Home is honored to serve the Newton family.
