Joseph “Joe” Arnold Newton
Joseph “Joe” Arnold Newton,
74, beloved father and the husband of Nancy Pender Newton, went home to
be with the Lord, Monday, March 30, 2020 at MUSC.
Mr. Newton was born the
son of Clarence Lezaire Newton, Sr. and Sarah Caroline Thomas Newton on
August 11, 1945 in Georgetown County. He was a retired millwright.
He was a member of Gourdines Chapel where he faithfully served as a deacon,
Sunday School teacher, and choir member. He enjoyed farming, gardening,
blue grass music, and hunting. He was a member of the Jack Hill Hunting
Club. His contagious smiles brighten the path of those you met him
while socializing at the local grocery stores.
He is survived by:
his wife, Nancy; two children, Beverly Newton Thompson (Michael) and Joseph
“Jody” Newton, II (Tonya); three grandchildren, Britney T. Harrington (Matthew),
Aaron Jolly, and Donnie M. Thompson; and two great-grandchildren, Baxlee
and Jagger. He is also survived by: a brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Samuel
Newton (Rhonda); a sister, Sara Nell Newton Thompson; and two sister-in-laws,
Bobbie Newton and Evelyne Newton.
He was predeceased by:
his parents; four brothers, Clarence Lezaire Newton, Jr., Willie Danzig
Newton, Warren Elbert Newton, and Thomas Olin Newton; and a sister, Mary
Lee Newton Herndon.
A Home Going Celebration
will be 6PM, Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Gourdines Chapel, 4282 County Line
Road, Andrews, directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Officiating will be Rev. Randy Gamble.
Per the family’s request,
we ask those who plan to attend to arrive 30 minutes prior to the service.
Due to the COVID-19 virus, this will be a drive-up service. Instructions
will be given upon arrival.

would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the Doctor's and Nurses at
MUSC for the care and compassion shown to them during this time.
