Herbert "Hickory" Gray, Jr
In this season we celebrate
the gift of Eternal Life through birth of Jesus Christ our Lord. Mr. Herbert
"Hickory" Gray, Jr. received the fullness of this divine gift, as he departed
this life on Friday, December 25, 2015 at his residence. Hickory
joined his beloved wife Wanda Yarborough Gray fulfilling his marriage promise
of October 12, 1963, to spend every Christmas with Wanda forever!
Mr. Gray was born the son
of Herbert Eugene Gray, Sr. and Elease Tisdale Gray on July 14, 1942 in
Cades. He was a 1960 graduate of Winyah High School and a graduate
of Limestone College. He was a retired employee with Georgetown Steel.
He was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church where he served as a
former Deacon and in Menís Fellowship. He enjoyed fishing, hunting,
woodworking, gardening, and traveling. He was a devoted husband,
loving father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend.
He leaves behind: a daughter,
Kathy Gray-Altman; and two grandchildren, Mary Katherine Altman and Matthew
Gray Altman; a brother, Michael (Laura) Gray; a sister, Mary G. (Vernon)
Swails; his extended family, Clara Gray-Altman, Brenda Gray, Jimmy Yarborough,
Donald (Jessie Lee) Yarborough, Ken Altman; loved as his own grandchildren,
John Parker Gray and Maddison Morris; a number of nieces and nephews; and
his loving and faithful dog, Duke.
He was predeceased by: his
parents; his wife; two brothers, John Gray and Billy Gray; and a sister,
A Home Going Celebration
will be 3PM, Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery directed by the Georgetown
Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation will be prior
to the service from 2-3PM in the church sanctuary.
