Grace Carter Burrows-Smith, 91, a native of Hemingway SC and the widow of Furman L. Burrows, departed this life on Friday afternoon, April 5, 2013 at the Agape Hospice House in Columbia.
Mrs. Burrows-Smith was born the daughter of Herbert Smith Carter and Carrie Bell Dusenbury Carter on June 7, 1921 in Hemingway, SC. She was a devoted and active member of the Indiantown Presbyterian Church. After moving to Columbia to live with her daughter, she joined the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Grace and Furman were married on September 25, 1938 and celebrated 30 years together. From their blessed union were born: one daughter, Gwynne Anderson, two grandsons, Erica (Pam) Anderson and Layne Anderson; and two great grandchildren, Brenna and Garrett. She leaves behind two sisters, Vera Nell (Odell) Cribb and Thelma Cribb.
She was predeceased by her husband; her son-in-law, John; and two sisters, Mary Mallard and Ruby Pierce.
A graveside service will be 2 PM, Tuesday, April 9, 2013, in the Indiantown Presbyterian Church Cemetery directed by the Hemingway Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
The Carter-Burrows family will receive family and friends immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall.
