Mr. Powell was the son of Jay Ivylee Powell and Lillian Odean Owens Powell on August 20, 1944 in Johnsonville. He was a retired diesel mechanic with Smith Logging & Southern Woods Products and a retired security officer with Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. He was an active member of Black River Original Free Will Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His family was his life. He was a devoted husband, loving father, a cherished grandfather affectionately called “Papa”, and a special brother and uncle. He never met a strange being friend to all.
Ervin and Inez were married on November 25, 1966 and celebrated 51 years together. Their home was blessed with: three children, Brenda Lee (James) Lambert, Terry Lynn (John) Player, and Ervin Lee (Marie) Powell, Jr; nine grandchildren, JW (Tara) Lambert, Justin (Asia) Powell, Chase (Vanessa) Lambert, Dianna Lambert, Cody M. Player, Kalanie C. Player, Christopher Reames, Angie (Mike) Knight, and Kim Richardson; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews that were like children to him. He also leaves behind: two brothers, Danny Earl (Becky) Powell and Jimmy O. Powell; and a sister, Miriam Kathy Hammac.
He was predeceased by: his parents; two brothers, Charles Powell and Travis Powell; a grandson, Joey Miller; and a brother-in-law, John Hammac.
A Home Going Celebration will be 4PM, Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Black River Original Free Will Baptist Church sanctuary. Internment will follow in the Piney Forest Cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 6-8PM, Tuesday, June 20, 2017 in Black River Original Free Will Baptist Church sanctuary
