Edith “Hope” Cribb Powell,
90, the widow of Willie Alexander “WA” Powell, Jr., went home to be with
the Lord, Saturday, February 29, 2020 at her residence.
Mrs. Powell was born the
daughter of James Earl Cribb and Minnie May Lowrimore Cribb on July 21,
1929 in Georgetown. She was a co-founder and charter member of the
Liberty Christian Church where she faithfully served as Secretary/Treasurer.
Though words could never fully describe all her life, she committed her
life to acts of selfless giving, fervent prayer, and an unconditional love.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, caring sister,
and loyal friend.
Edith and W.A. were married
on June 21, 1947 and celebrated 66 years together. Their home was
blessed with: four children, Jackie (Carver) Black, Jerry (Libby)
Powell, Elaine Langston, and Ramona (Van) Moree; nine grandchildren, Carla
Black, Carey Black (Katie), Jessica Parrish (Tristan), Jeremy Powell (Brittany),
Daniel Langston (Kristen), David Langston, Devan Moree (Scottie), Gavin
Moree (Maggie), and Gabrielle Moree; six great-grandchildren, Harley Taylor,
Tanner Langston, Tinleigh Langston, Saylor Moree, Sullivan Moree, and Sawyer
Moree; and a great great-granddaughter, Maylynn Carter. She is also
survived by: her sister-in-laws, Fleetie Cribb, Glenda Cribb, and
Peggy Wheeler- Cribb; and her brother-in-laws, Sam “Junior” Grier, Jr.,
Pinkie Herring, and Thomas “Mutt” Powell.
She was predeceased by:
her parents; her husband; two great-grandson, Sullivan and Sawyer; daughter-in-law,
Jan R. Powell; four brothers, John E. Cribb, Clinton Cribb, Cecil
Cribb, and Marion L. Cribb; and three sisters, Edna Hickson, Lena Mae Grier,
and Esther Grier.
A Home Going Celebration
will be 2PM, Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Liberty Christian Church, 1747 South
Morgan Ave., Andrews. Officiating will be Rev. Jerry Cox and Pastor
Geraldine Bednego. Internment will follow in the Earles Pentecostal Holiness
Church Cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
The Powell family
will receive family and friends 6-8PM, Monday evening, March 2, 2020 in
the sanctuary of Liberty Christian Church.
