Georgetown

Donnie Lee Powell, 64, was a beloved brother, friend, and a remarkable life who touched the hearts of many through his childlike faith and unconditional love.  He went home to be with his Lord and join his waiting loved ones on Sunday evening, January 20, 2013, at Tidelands Community Hospice.

Donnie has lived in Georgetown for many years under the excellent care and nurture of his “Mom and Dad” – Ethel Lee and the late Odell Avant.  He was born the son of Bealie Leo Powell and Addie Delia Marsh Powell on February 4, 1948 in Hemingway, SC.  He attended the Winyah Adult Activity Center and was a member of the Georgetown Church of God where he served as a musician.     

He leaves behind:  four sisters, Lizzie Dane Cribb, Ethel Lee Avant, Joyce Lee (Berry) McKenzie, and Doris Lee McKenzie.

He was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Junior Leo Powell and Jessie Buster Powell; two sisters, Thelma Louise Hodge and Edna Powell Stone.  

A Going Home Celebration will be 11 AM, Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at the Georgetown Church of God.   Committal service will be 2 PM, Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Old Field Cemetery in Hemingway, SC directed by the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Tuesday evening, January 22, 2013 in the sanctuary of the Georgetown Church of God.
