Georgetown

DeWitt Bunch, 84, the widower of Frances Ellen Bagot Bunch, departed this life on Wednesday evening, November 14, 2012 at Tidelands Community Hospice.

He was born the son of DeWitt Bunch and Cora Bell Davenport Bunch on June 28,1928 in Oklahoma City, OK.   He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from June 1945-1948.  He was a seaman on the boat, Oleander; a Fireman First Class on the boat, Green Brier; and was an electrician on the buoy tender, Sycamore. DeWitt worked for R.L. Polk & Co in Detroit, MI, for 18 years as a field superintendent.  After retiring, he worked another 18 years as an Equipment Maintenance Supervisor at the State University of New York at Geneseo.  Since retiring, he worked as a transporter for the Youth Advocate Program.  DeWitt shared his passion for genealogy with his wife.  Together they collected family history information for sixty years.

DeWitt fell in love with Frances Ellen Bagot and they were married on September 12, 1947.  Their home was blessed with:  six sons, Clifford (Sue) Bunch, Daniel (Cindy) Bunch, Donald (Katie) Bunch, Thomas (Linda) Bunch Sr., DeWitt David Bunch, John (Beth) Bunch; two daughters, Roxanne (David) Daniel, Linda (Joseph) Sauer;  eighteen grandchildren; and a big BUNCH of great-grandchildren.  He also leaves behind:  four brothers, Bob (Betty) Bunch, John (Mattie) Bunch, James (Lynda) Bunch, and Ralph (Elia) Bunch; a sister, Nancy (Glen) McFarlane.   Over the years, they had more than 18 foster children.

He was predeceased by: his parents; his wife; a daughter, Bonnie Sue; and a brother, Bill.

Funeral Service with Military Honors will be 1 PM, Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Georgetown Chapel.  Private interment will follow in the Andrews Memorial Cemetery directed by McKenzie Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 12-1PM, Saturday, November 17, prior to the service at the Georgetown Chapel.
