 Georgetown

Thursday, March 9, 2017, the Home Going Celebration began as Reverend David Brice Coker departed this world joining his beloved bride, Josephine "Jho" Floyd Coker and a host of family and friends.

Rev. Coker was born the son of Jesse Neil Coker and Lennie Yarborough Coker on December 28, 1934 in Olanta.  He was a graduate of Lake City High School.  He earned an Associates degree in 1976 from Southwestern College; in 1994 received a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from the University of Biblical Studies and Seminary; and received an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity in 1996 from Kingsway Christian College.  Mr. Coker was a United States Army Veteran and a retired US National Guard Chaplain.  He was licensed in June 1969 and ordained in June 1971 as a Minister with the South Carolina Conference of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church.  His ministry spans the low country communities for over four decades as he pastored Little Star PHC of Manning, Stone Chapel PHC of Pamplico, for over 22 years at Maryville PHC of Georgetown and Menoah UMC of Lake City.  Pastor Coker established a Radio Ministry and Prison Ministry in Georgetown; served on the SC IPHC Conference Board; a member of the SC Alcohol & Drug Abuse Board; built 2 church sanctuaries while pastoring; wrote and published 3 books – “Tongues of Fire”, “Bestowing the Blessing” and “From Gethsemane to Golgotha” - and was a writer for the Pentecostal Holiness Conference publications.  
Rev. Coker and Ms. Jho were married on August 8, 1952 and celebrated 64 years together.  Their home was blessed with:  three children, Rhonda (Philip) Floyd of N. Charleston, Kristy (Jim) Pridgen of Lexington; and Noel (Donnette) Coker of Georgetown; 12 grandchildren, Jessica (Steven) Elliott, Jaime Floyd, Joshua (Miranda Gutierrez) Floyd, Jana Floyd, Jonathan Newton, Matthew (Courtney) Newton, Kaylin Pridgen, Robert Pridgen, Noelle (Andrew) Settlemire, Kala Coker, Christopher Elliott and Dustin Elliott; 5 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Brice, Owen, Oliver, and Junilee.  He also leaves behind a sister, Mona Carraway.
He was predeceased by:  his parents; his wife; two brothers, Delbert Coker and Garris Coker; and three sisters, Stella Young, Belma Goude, and Vendella Young.
A Home Going Celebration with Military Honors will be 11AM, Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Maryville Pentecostal Holiness Church. Officiating will be Rev. Doug Amos, Rev. Tim Nail, Rev. Tommy Cox, Elder George Blakely, Elder Larry Feagin, his beloved son, Noel Coker,and his beloved daughter, Rhonda Floyd. Interment will follow at 3:30PM in the Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery directed by the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
The Coker family will receive family and friends 6-8PM, Saturday evening, March 11, 2017 in the sanctuary of Maryville PHC.
