Christine W. Benton Floyd, 95, widow of Delos “DW” Wheeler Floyd, went home to be with the Lord and join her waiting host of family and friends, Friday, December 5, at the Prince George Health Care.
Mrs. Floyd was born a daughter of Herbert Benton and Eunice Poston Benton on August 11, 1919, at her homestead in the Black River community of Andrews.  She was a retired seamstress with Oneita Industries; and was a faithful lifelong member of the Black River OFWB Church where she has served in numerous positions including Sunday School Teacher, Ladies Auxiliary, Adult Choir, Prayer Committee, and a strong supporter of World Mission.  She was a faithful wife, devoted mother, and cherished sister leaving a Godly legacy of Christian faith and dedication for her family and friends.  For it is written, “Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised” (Proverbs 31:31).
Christine and DW were married on September 17, 1936, and celebrated 36 years together.  Their home was blessed with: four sons, Delbert (Linda) Floyd, Jerome Floyd, Jimmy (Violet) Floyd, and Ronnie (Myra) Floyd; nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren.  She was born into a family of eight children leaving behind: two sisters, Elma (Nick) Jimes and Lelia Hodges; and two sister-in-laws, Joann Benton and Betty Ann Benton.
She is reunited with: her husband; two sons, Delbert and Jerome; a grandson, Stevie; two brothers, Lavern Benton and Bobby Benton; and three sisters and four brothers-in-laws, Rena Bell (Rev. Andrew) Poston, Lucille (Gentury) Mitchum, Edith Mae (Belmont) McConnell and Troy Hodges.
A Home Going Celebration will be 2PM, Monday, December 8, 2014 at the Black River Original Free Will Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in the Piney Forest Cemetery directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 5-8PM, Sunday evening, December 7, 2014, in the sanctuary of Black River OFWB Church.
