Bethel Oliver Goude, 96,
beloved husband of Miriam Joye Goude, took his final vacation to be with
the Lord, Saturday, May 12, 2018 at his residence.
“Mr. Bethel” as he was affectionately
known, was born the son of Daniel Derrick Goude and Mary Lessie Sanders
Goude on December 16, 1921 in Georgetown County. He was a United
States Navy Veteran. He proudly served his country in World War II;
convoy duty in North Africa; the invasion of North Africa and Sicily; and
the landing of Iwo Jima where he proudly watched the raising of the United
States Flag. He enjoyed farming, fishing, gardening, and especially
loved being on his Farmall tractor. He was a member of the Mr. Zion
Baptist Church were he was active in the Adult Sunday School Class.
Mr. Bethel and Mrs. Miriam were married on February 7, 1949 and celebrated
69 years together. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather,
caring brother and a loyal friend. Above all, he loved God,
his country, and his family.
He leaves behind: his loving “Sweetie” Miriam; his children, Reuben
Goude (Wanda); Gwen Goude Hartgrove (Duane); and Brenda Goude Rich; four
grandchildren, Jennifer (Hayward), Taylor, Cassidy, and Courtney; and four
great-grandchildren, Alexis (Zach), Binkie, Anna, and Bentley. He
also leaves behind: four sisters, Annie Cameron, Lois (Hassie) Thompkins,
Esther Ballard, and Ruth Long; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased
by: his parents; a son, Raymond Luther “Luke” Goude; a brother, C.G.
Goude; and three sisters, Thelma G. Cribb, Lila G. Thompkins West, and
Funeral Services with Military
Honors will be 3PM, Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at his home church, Mt. Zion
Baptist Church, 5542 Carvers Bay Road, Hemingway, SC 29554. Interment
directed by the Hemingway Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home will follow in
the church cemetery.
