Georgetown

Barbara Joan Cochran Joyner, 81, a beloved mother, and the widow of Russell H. Joyner, Sr., went home to be with the Lord and join her waiting loved ones on Wednesday afternoon, December 26, 2012, at the Tidelands Community Hospice House.

Barbara was born the daughter of Howard Smith Cochran and Georgie Lucinda Grayson Cochran on September 17, 1931 in Randleman, NC.  She was a devoted charter member of Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church where she served in numerous capacities including Chancel Choir Director for over 35 years.  She was the co-owner of Joyner Transfer Company.  She was a teacher and mentor to many local artists and musicians.

Barbara and Russell were married on November 25, 1956 and celebrated 45 years together.  Their home was blessed with:  four children, Russell H. (Jan) Joyner, Jr., Barbara Joan J. Avery, Eric Alan Joyner, and Dana Lynn J. Moore; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  She also leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by: her parents; her husband; two son-in-laws, Ray Neal Avery and Kelly Wade Moore.

Service of Death and Resurrection with recognition of Distinguished Christian Service will be 
3PM, Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church.  Visitation will follow immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.  

Committal Service will be 5PM, Sunday, December 30, 2012 in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens directed by the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
