Barry Basile Sanders


Barry Basile Sanders, 74, beloved husband of Juan Adair Cox Sanders, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at his residence.
Mr. Sanders was born the son of Basile Dermont Sanders and Angela Marie Proctor Sanders on September 24, 1940 in Keene Valley, NY.  He attended the First United Methodist Church of Hemingway where he served in the Chancel Choir.  Mr. Sanders was a proud United States Navy Veteran who served his country for 23 years from 1958 until his retirement in 1981.  During his time in the service, Barry was the recipient of several distinguished military awards and honors including:  several conduct medals, the Sailor of the Year award, and campaign ribbons.  As a retiree, Barry was an active member of the American Legion, the Fleet Reserve, and the VFW. 
He is survived by:  his wife; a daughter, Deborah (Steve) Platt; a son, Michael (Silvana) Sanders; a step-daughter, Leslie (Jonathan) Lyerly; and a step-son, Clint (Carrie) Miller; seven grandchildren, Sara, Mateo, Victoria, Kamryn, Jon Coleman, Miller, and Carter; four sisters; and a brother.
He was predeceased by:  his parents; his first wife, Josephine Ciocca Sanders; and two sisters.
Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be 3 PM, Sunday March 8, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church of Hemingway.  Interment will follow in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery directed by the Hemingway Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
The Sanders family will receive family and friends prior the service in the church sanctuary from 1PM- 3PM. 
McKenzie Funeral Home of Hemingway is honored to serve the Sanders Family.
